Additional coverage options for home insurance
Additional coverage options
Scheduled personal property coverage
Scheduled personal property includes high-value items you add to your homeowners policy to ensure they are covered if something happens to them.
To ensure your high-value items have adaquette coverage, you can list (or "schedule") them on your home insurance policy. The items you can schedule vary, but could include:
- Jewelry, such as engagement and wedding rings
- Stamps, coins, ceramics and other collections
- Cameras and equipment
- Fine art, such as paintings, rugs and vases
- Furs
- Gold equipment
- Musical instruments and equipment
- Silverware
Be sure to occasionally take stock of any high-value items you may have recently bought or been gifted. It's also a good idea to get appraisals done on a regular basis, as the cost of these items can fluctuate over time.
Water backup and sump overflow coverage
If you have water ad sump overflow in your basement due to a sump pump failure or sewer backup, you want to be sure your homeowners insurance will cover you up to the purchased limit. Water backup and sump overflow coverage is not included in a standard homeowners insurance policy.
One important thing to note: A water backup and sump overflow endorsement will not cover you if you experience a flood. You'll need to purchase a separate flood insurance policy to protect your home from flood damage.
Personal injury coverage
Adding a personal injury endorsement to your homeowners insurance policy could protect you against damages resulting from personal injury offenses against others, including:
- False arrest
- Detention
- Imprisonment
- Wrongful entry
- Malicious prosecution
- Wrongful eviction
- slander
- Defamation of character
- Libel
- Invasion of privacy
Refrigerated property coverage
The causes of power outages are many, but the resulting food spoilage is often the same. If you experience a power outage and the food in your refrigerator or freezer spoils, this endorsement could help you recover some of the costs related to the replacement of food when it spoils due to power failure.
Service line coverage
You've likely never seen the utility lines that run underground to your house - things like water and sewer pipes or gas and electric lines. Di you know that homeowners are usually responsible when the ones that run from the street to their house fall? Whether they've failed due to rust or deterioration or have been damaged by tree roots or construction equipment, it that can mean bug out-of-pocket costs. Your homeowners policy could help. Call us to find out what coverage could be available for you.
Equipment breakdown
We rely on many appliances and mechanical systems in our home for everyday chores, like washing clothes or cooking dinner and provide essential functions like heating and air conditioning. And appliances and other equipment are continually getting more advanced - and getting more costly to repair or replace. That's where Equipment Breakdown Insurance could help. While it doesn't cover normal wear and tear, it could help if equipment in your home has a sudden failure. Want to learn more? Give us a call.
