Safety discounts and benefits

Good Driver discount (California only)

Safe-driving habits make the roads safer for us all. Driving safely is also one of the easiest ways to lower your insurance premiums. For our policyholders in California, this is called the Good Driver discount.

Premier Safety discount

What do we do for our safest drivers? We reward them, of course. 

The Premier Safety discount is reserved only for those policies where all insured drivers have spotless records. Drivers in these households have not had any traffic violations, accidents or claims for the past four years. 

It's not easy to maintain a squeaky-clean record. That's why we think it's worth celebrating. 

Defensive driver discount

Have you ever thought about taking a "refresher" driving course? If so, we have an extra incentive for you.

Take a "refresher" course approved by your state’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or an accredited organization, and we may reward your initiative with a discount. (Unfortunately, this discount does not apply if you took the course while learning to drive. And drivers’ education classes cannot be used to secure this discount either.)

To earn the discount, complete the course and present us with a copy of your certificate of completion. Other restrictions may apply.

Vehicle safety features

Did you know that the safety features in your car can make your car insurance more affordable? In fact, these car insurance discounts are among the easiest to earn. If your car includes the following safety features, we may be able to provide you with additional discounts on your car insurance:

Anti-theft devices

Garaging discount

If you park your vehicle overnight in a garage, we may be able to offer you a discount for the added protection this provides. Availability is limited. Ask your client service representative whether this discount exists in your area.

Student discounts

Good student discount

Because young drivers lack driving experience, they face greater odds of being involved in an accident. That means young drivers — or their families — often pay higher rates. But, good grades matter. They demonstrate hard work, responsibility and commitment. To show our appreciation for academic achievement, we offer car insurance discounts for full-time students who can prove they meet certain qualifications. Ask your client service representative about the specifics. Consider this another great reason to hit the books!

Student Away discount

If your student is going away to school more than 100 miles from your home, you may be eligible for the Student Away discount. This discount allows you to keep your student driver on your policy so they’re covered when driving on weekends or during a break at home. But when they’re away, you won’t pay the full cost of a driver who won’t be driving your vehicle every day. (Please note: This discount does not apply if the student has a vehicle at school.)
