Someone broke into your home, condo or apartment. Or they slipped into your yard or unlocked garage, grabbed a few things and ran off into the night. No matter what type of home theft you’ve experienced, we’re here to help. Here’s what you should do immediately following the theft:

  • Call the police to report a theft.
  • Identify everything that was stolen.
  • Call us at 800-872-5246.

Be safe

If you suspect thieves are still in or on your property, leave immediately and call 911. There is never a reason to risk your safety.

Identify the missing items

If you are sure there is no one on or in your property, take a quick visual scan of the scene to identify the items that have been stolen. Don’t touch anything. If you disturb the scene, you could destroy evidence that may assist a police investigation. Instead, take lots of pictures or short videos, and make a list the missing items and any other property damage. If you can’t recall every item that may have been taken, add items to the list as things come to mind.

Call the police right away

As soon as you discover something missing from your property, contact local law enforcement. Let them know you want to file a report documenting the home theft. Share with them the list of items stolen and damaged, the last time you saw the items, and an estimate of the total value of the loss. The list of items you provide to us must match the police report, so it's important to update the police report if you remember additional items later.

When you get a copy of the police report, send it to us. Some states require authorization for us to receive a copy of the police report. In that case, we’ll ask you to sign a form giving us permission to obtain the police report.

Give us a call at 800-872-5246

Touch base with us as soon as you can, ideally within the first 24 hours, so we know to expect a more detailed, written homeowners claim in the coming days. Have your policy number ready when you talk to our team, telling them what was stolen and the estimated total loss. In certain cases, we’ll send an adjuster to meet with you and inspect your loss. We’ll confirm your coverage, review your deductible, collect information about what happened and ask you about any damage to your property. We’ll also share next steps and give you an estimated timeline for processing your home theft claim.

Share photos and receipts

Gather the photos and videos you took and send them to us or share them with the adjuster if you meet in person. If you have photos or videos from before the burglary or receipts for the stolen items, share them with us as well. This additional documentation can help expedite your claim.

If you’ve suffered a home theft, we want to help. We’ll work with you to process your claim as quickly as possible. Contact us to get started.
